Book Review: Love Inspired: Her Perfect Man by Jillian Hart

My mom has gotten me interested into these books, which are Christian romance novels put out thr
ough Steeple Hill publishers, a part of Harlequin. She orders them and saves them for me when she is done with them. The stories are about people overcoming all sorts of hardships, building family bonds, relying on faith to find their perfect mate. There are no adult scenes in these books, in fact; I have even let my nine year old daughter read a few of them!

This book is one of many written about the McKaslin family, and this book features on one of the still single sisters, Rebecca. Rebecca has been loyal in her devotion to God, has earned her degree, and is now living on her on, in a condo once owned by one of her sisters. She met and fell in love with a guy named Chris, and thought that he was her perfect match, but she finds out that nothing was as she thought, when Chris starts using drugs, begging her for money, and then stalking her, for months after their relationship was over.

Her new neighbor Chad Lawson has had his own troubled life, he was a rebellious teenager, who at one time stole a car, and had an accident that seriously injured another person. Chad's grandfather took him in hand, and after a stint in juvie, Chad gave his life to the Lord. He started volunteering and working with kids in the church, to keep them on the right path. His goal was to attend seminary school, and to keep as many kids as possible from making the same mistakes that he did.

Chad and Rebecca meet, and start attending church events together. They eventually become best friends, but because Chad didn't reveal his past to her, their friendship/relationship could fall by the wayside.

To find out whether or not Chad and Rebecca overcome their problems, you will have to read the book. Not only will you find an interesting read, but maybe you will be inspired by these two people, and the scriptures found within the book.

Book Review- Tempting a Texan by Carolyn Davidson

In this book, Tempting a Texan, written by Carolyn Davidson, a Texas bank-owner suddenly finds himself the legal guardian of a 5 year old niece that he had no idea existed. Nicholas Garvey never knew his father, other than his name, and found out that he had a sister that he never knew about, although she knew of him, but not until that sister was deceased, and her daughter was brought to him per her written request some time later.

Along with his niece, Nicholas also had to put up with her caregiver, Linnie. Linnie had been with the little girl since her birth, and had cared for her ever since. Linnie had a rough family background, and had no interest in marriage and love, or at least she thought, until she met Nicholas Garvey on the day that she delivered his five year old niece into his keeping. Nicholas convinced her to stay with the child at his home, at least until she had time to adjust to her new living situation.

While all this was going on, the child's biological father, presumed dead until this point, decided that he wanted to have custody of the child, only his intentions were not honest. He wanted to have the young tot only to lay claim to the substantial estate she had inherited, and was willing to go to any lengths to get her, even killing Nicholas and Linnie, if required.

I won't go into the ending in great detail, so as not to ruin the book for you, but I will tell you that in the end, Nicholas, Linnie, and young Amanda all get the family they have always wished for!

They say that every book you read, regardless of the type of genre, in some way imprints your life, and in this case, this book taught me that regardless of what happens, everything can be made right by finding and falling in love with the right person, the one that you are meant to be with. I have found my special someone, and hopefully, this book can bring others this same knowledge!

Book Review- Harlequin SuperRomance- Baby Business by Brenda Novak

In this book, we meet Macy McKinney, med-school student, work at home medical transcriptionist, and single mother of five year old Haley. Macy is struggling to finish med-school, make financial ends meet, and take care of Haley, who has cancer ravaging her body, and will die without a bone marrow transplant. The bone marrow transplant can be done once a compatible donor is found, but Macy has to come up with $150,000 to pay for the transplant up front, before the hospital will do it. In the meantime, Haley is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, battling blood infections, and stuck in the hospital.

Thad Winters, a successful ad executive, was forced to make the most difficult decision of his life after a tragic car accident, save his beloved wife Valerie, who is his life, or have doctors try to save his son, who is struggling for life inside Valerie’s failing body. Thad makes the agonizing decision to keep his wife alive, so doctors focus all of their efforts on saving her, only to lose both the baby, and Valerie in the end.

After some time goes by, Thad decides that he has no interest in ever marrying again, but feels that he does need a child to make his life complete. He comes up with this crazy scheme to hire a woman to be artificially inseminated with his sperm, and he will pay her $100,000 to turn the baby and all rights over to him at birth. After interviewing several interested parties, and finding them all lacking, he is ready to give up, when out of desperation, Macy comes walking into his office.

Macy doesn’t really relish the idea of being artificially inseminated, or of carrying a baby and then giving it up after birth, but out of desperation to save Haley, she feels she has to take this drastic step, as it could provide her with the rest of the money she needs to pay for Haley’s much needed bone marrow transplant.

Things don’t work out in the end like you may think, but I will tell you that young Haley gets her transplant, and is thriving at the end of the book. For details on the contract between Thad and Macy, you will have to actually read the story!

It is easy to criticize the things that others do, without knowing their reasons. Macy probably was criticized for agreeing to Thad’s plan, but on the other hand, those of us who have children can definitely see where she is coming from, because desperation can make us do things we normally would never dream of!
